Kenney Harrell is the sole proprietor of Kenney Harrell Wild Turkey Calls. He's been making wild turkey calls since 1975. His first call was made from a piece of poplar from a hobby display at the local hardware store. He didn't own a table saw, router or any other of the normal woodworking tools most people would associate with call making. He shaped the inside of the call with a bench grinder. Using a piece of 1/4 inch poplar hobby board, he fashioned the lid. It sounded pretty good. In fact, good enough to call up several gobblers. This early success, along with his fascination with learning what causes calls to have different sounds (length of the sounding boards, thickness of the sounding boards, length and thickness of the lids, etc.) has lead him on a long journey to the present.

Kenny had no teacher, and has learned all these things about making turkey calls the hard way. This passion, making and experimenting with turkey calls, for the past twenty-five years, has given him a vast amount of knowledge, which enables him to make one of the best sounding and best looking calls on the market.

He has 2 accomplishments that he is very proud of: 1) Being featured in Mr. Earl Mickel's second book "Turkey Callmakers Past & Present -The Rest Of The Best". Earl, who is from Pennsylvania, physically came all the way to Mississippi to interview myself and others. His hard work in putting these books together puts all us callmakers in his debt. 2) Killing my 1st turkey with a bow. He weighed 19 1/2 lbs. with 1 1/4" sharp spurs and an 11" beard. There were 2 Big Boys together, following 4 or 5 hens. He made a few excited cutts and yelps with his "Willow with Canarywood lid Field Grade Box" and they did a left face like soldiers. They left the hens and came straight to my decoys. Kenny got the smaller of the 2 because he presented a perfect shot facing straight on. He shot him just above the beard and the rest is history.
