Straight from the shop comes Making the Box Call Volume 1. In this the first
volume of six videos Chip allows us to go into his shop and witness the building
of two box turkey
calls.
From the very beginning of cutting the endblocks to the final tuning you
can see it all.
Along the way we see how he cuts several endblocks at one time. He also reveals
the machine he built to make paddles and gives the place where the bit can
be purchased.
The secret of tuning the call, using different woods, a Superglue trick and
the technique for a super finish using nothing but laquer.
Most of the secrets and myths of callbuilding will be revealed on this video...at
least those that Chip knows.
Chip has built calls ranging all the way from $9 field calls to limited sets
made for TV personalities and even a former U.S. President.
The video is made for entertainment and as such Chip recognized that watching
him build a call was a bit boring. Throughout the video are scattered bits
of Chip's down home country wisdom.
Chip
writes the humor column "Wild Life" in which he gives a country boy's perspective
of life. This video contains some of his more prophetic thoughts and life
lessons. These range from "Why men aren't as stupid as women think" to "Why
Chip would rather be a groundhog as an eagle."
This video is shop made and contains any mistake Chip may have made whether
he admits it or not. Watch as
Chip's
router throws a bearing and the idiot glues a call to his work bench. Anyone
who has been around Chip in his shop can attest to his humor and the fact
you'll never know what to expect.
The video was totally shot in his workshop and edited for time. But every
step of the process is
demonstrated.
This video is two hours of fun and great insight into building a box turkey
call.
Whether you're thinking about taking up the art, or a seasoned callmaker
just wanting to point out all Chip's mistakes...this video is for you. |
